The Street Department crews consist of four employees who maintain over 50 miles of roadways in Kingfisher. We maintain Kingfisher's streets; repairing base failures (commonly known as potholes), breakages and cave-ins. We clean and maintain roadside ditches, drainage areas and culverts for our major thoroughfares.
We remove debris under bridges to maintain water flow. We repair washouts surrounding bridges and repair holes or broken parts of the bridge floor. In addition, we maintain and repair storm drain pipes under our roadways. We remove trees and tree limbs that block street signs, stop signs, traffic signals or line of sight to enter a roadway. In the aftermath of major storms, we remove broken trees and limbs in the street right-of-way. We also put up new street signs, repair concrete, and overlay asphalt. Our employees' skill in handling these tasks means the City doesn't have to hire contractors for these jobs. That saves your taxpayer dollars, and it results in repairs that are made more quickly. Ice and Snow Control Operations The Street Department follows a priority classification system for clearing city streets. The areas of highest priority include main thoroughfares and entrances to emergency facilities such as fire stations and the hospital. |
